Important News for our Panther Community

Welcome!

If you are receiving this newsletter, your child is enrolled to attend Lawton Chiles Middle School this fall. Please read all of the information and follow all of the included links below so that you have the most up-to-date information to prepare your Panther for the best school year. We can't wait to see all of our Panthers on campus in August!

New to LCMS? Here's How to Be a Panther

7/28 - Panther Preview - Campus will be open from 9-10 am for incoming 6th grade and new to us 7th & 8th grade students and families. Buildings will be open but classrooms will be locked and teachers will not be on campus. Come find your way around campus before you get your schedule!

8/1 - Log into Skyward to see your schedule. We do not know at what time they will be available, but it will be at some time on this day. Once you view your schedule, we will have a form for limited schedule change requests. This will be sent out the day before.

8/7 - 5-7 pm - Meet the Teacher - Come and walk your schedule. Pick up a map on the way in. Find your 1st period class. Walk your schedule in order so you will know where to go on the first day of school. All teachers will be in their rooms so students and parents can meet them. This is not a time to bring in school supplies, nor is it a time for a one-on-one conversation about your student. If there is something you need to discuss individually with a teacher, you can drop off a letter, send them an email, or click the button at the bottom of the newsletter to schedule a conference.

***Please note: Mrs. Morris' RAMP class will only be available from 5-6 pm.

8/11 - First Day of School - Bring basic supplies that you will need for each class. We do not have lockers so do not bring in everything. Teachers will let you know what you need.

8/19 - 6-7 pm - Parent Tech Night - Learn how to set up notifications in Skyward for low grades, weekly updates, and more. Learn how to become an observer in all of your child's eCampus courses. Bring your personal device that you will use to access these systems. You will also need your child's School ID number.

Student Planners

This school year, all 6th graders will be given a school planner, courtesy of our sponsor Kapadia Orthodontics. Approximately, 200 additional planners will be available for purchase by 7th and 8th graders at a later date.

Student Attendance

Students must be in class in order to learn. Please use the SCPS Student Calendar below to schedule any appointments or vacations to have as little impact on your child's attendance as possible.

Last school year, 16% of our students had 10+ unexcused absences and 24% had 15+ unexcused absences. It is our goal to reduce these numbers this school year.

Items of note:

Dress Code: Please be sure to follow the link below to the SCPS Dress Code. Students are to be covered from arm pit to arm pit and down to their thighs. All shirts must have straps. No midriff should be showing at any time. Crop tops are not to be worn.

SCPS Dress Code

ID Cards: All students will be provided with an ID card on a lanyard. They are to have them on them at all times. If your student loses their card, one free replacement will be provided. All subsequent replacements will cost $2. Parents will be sent a payment link when the ID card is printed. Please use the button at the bottom of the newsletter to request a replacement. Once a new ID has been issued, the old one is no longer valid.
