Principal Update

Last week, we had an exceptionally busy and rewarding week with our band students. On Thursday evening, our Jazz Band performed at their Music Performance Assessment and delivered an outstanding performance, earning straight Superior ratings from all three judges. The adjudication panel included the FSYO Jazz Band Director and renowned jazz educator Don Zentz, who served as last year’s All-State Jazz Band clinician. The judges were highly complimentary of our students’ musicianship and preparation. This video is the Jazz Band MPA Performance.

Solo and Ensemble followed on Friday evening (5:00–9:45 p.m.) and throughout the day on Saturday (9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.), with students performing for adjudicators in ten-minute intervals.

We are incredibly proud to share that 221 students participated, and 210 Superior medals will be awarded. Every LCMS student earned one of the two highest ratings—Superior or Excellent—a remarkable accomplishment.

These achievements are a testament to the students’ dedication and hard work, as many began preparing their music as early as October and November. Their commitment and discipline truly paid off.

Kudos also to our Band Directors Mrs. Kuperman and Mrs. Autrey for their dedication and amazing skill to train these talented musicians.

Congratulations to Chorus 3 student, Lainey Flora, performed sola A cappella Star Spangled Banner at the SCCPTA (Seminole County Council PTA) Mascot Games this past Saturday. Way to go Lainey!

Congratulations to these students who were recognized at tonight's History Fair Awards Ceremony!!

Lastly, we need your help with a few reminders for our students:
  • Cell phones: Remember, students are NOT to be on their phones at all during the school day. This is a state law. Teachers have been reminded to follow our discipline ladder and issue consequences as necessary.
  • Dress Code: We are seeing lots of low rise bottoms and crop tops, especially on the girls. We should never see a student's midriff. Please review the SCPS Dress Code policy below. Visit the SCPS website for more info: https://files.smartsites.parentsquare.com/6662/dresscode_1.pdf
  • ID cards: ALL students MUST have their school ID card on them every day. Students without one will be issued a new one. The first replacement is free. Subsequent replacements will be $2 each.
Thank you for your help reminding your children of these expectations.

Have a great week!

Ag Day

National Agriculture Day Student Job Fair

The Agriculture Council of America announced that March 24, 2026, will be National Agriculture Day with the theme of “Together We Grow.” Ag Day 2026 also celebrates 250 years of progress in agriculture.

Cara Maiden, LCMS's Exploration of Agriscience Teacher,  will be hosting an event for her students to meet and interact with local professionals who work in or support agriculture-related fields. The goal is for students to learn about real-world agricultural careers, ask questions, and see how agriculture connects to their community and future opportunities.

Participation would involve setting up a small table or station and speaking with students during the event.
Where: LCMS
When: Tuesday - 3/24/26
Time: 10:00 am - 3:30 pm
More details to follow.
Thank you for your willingness to participate.

Please email Ms. Maiden with questions : maidencz@scps.k12.fl.us

Spring Rising 5k

Help support the LCMS Sports and Wellness programs by participating in the Oviedo Run Club's Spring Rising 5K! Kids pay only their age up until March 16th, and adults are only $25. All participants get a great shirt and finisher award. The middle school with the most registrations will win $500!

Event information:
Join The Oviedo Run Club for our 4th Annual Spring Rising, benefiting underfunded educational gardens in our local schools. A portion of your registration will help provide the seeds, soil and supplies necessary to keep these learning grounds growing.

Garden and Plant Expo
Our post-race event will feature local gardening clubs, farms and nurseries to help guide and teach how to plan and care for the home garden. Walk through the vendor area for free gardening advice, cuttings and seeds.

Each finisher will receive an unforgettable and non-disposable finisher's award, sourced from local businesses.

The course is traditionally an out and back route that runs along the Cross Seminole Trail and past many important Oviedo landmarks. The trail was once the railroad that helped Oviedo become one of the country's largest supplier of watercress and celery.

Race packets will be full of practical items you'll be sure to use again, along with the best commemorative race shirt that ends up in everyone's regular running attire.

DON'T FORGET
PLEASE BRING A FOOD ITEM ON RACE DAY - food collected at the event will be donated to HOPE Helps, Inc. and local public school food pantries.

The Oviedo Run Club is committed to putting on a green event, which entails the use of compostable water cups, on site recycling and race packets that are full of useable items, not to be wasted.
