Principal Update

As we get closer to the end of the year, the weeks get busier and busier!

Earlier this month, Mrs. Nystrom's Science Fair class tested the catapults they constructed over 3 categories:
-Distance
-Accuracy
-Destruction
Students began with examples, common features, then prototype and tested. Their final portfolios will include schematics, measurement & reflections.

Last week, our teachers surprised the students by having an Underground Spirit Week last week.

Last Friday, our 6th grade Math teachers loved collaborating with our Oviedo cluster during our Professional Learning session focused on articulation from 5th to 6th grade! Teachers from across our feeder schools came together to observe classrooms, share strategies, and strengthen alignment to support a smooth transition for our students. From meaningful conversations to real-time classroom observations, it was all about ensuring our students are set up for success every step of the way.

Last Friday, at the GFWC Oviedo Woman's Club Philanthropic Awards Ceremony, several LCMS teachers were awarded grants for their classroom projects. Additionally, Gina Haddox was selected as one of the PEAK Award winners, given to teachers who are a Professional Educator, Accomplished and Kind. She was nominated by her Civics teammates. Special congratulations were also given to Zoey H. for her Science Fair project. Teachers who received grants are:
  • Amanda Bond
  • Jennifer Capp
  • Morgan Heckle
  • Ashley Maher
  • Cara Maiden
  • Terra Nystrom
  • Patricia O'Neill
  • Nikki Ortiz-Tatarka
  • Andrew Stone
  • Suzette Swallow
Thank you to the Oviedo Woman's Club who distributed over $50,000. proceeds from the Great Day in Country.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of Newsies for their amazing performances this weekend! Three sold out shows and over 750 audience members! Mrs. T and Mrs. Tuttle are incredibly proud of your talent and dedication over these past four months. A special shoutout to our amazing staff cameos from Dr. Vardas, Mrs. Haddox, Mrs. Capp, Mrs. Duprey, Dr. Taylor, and Ms. Heckle for her 3 show performances. Also, Mrs. Maiden and Mrs. Higley, thank you for helping with all three shows! Bravo!

Congratulations to all four basketball teams for their victories over South Seminole Academy last night. Both the girls' and boys' JV basketball teams have secured their place in the Finals with a 5-0 winning record. The girls and boys varsity basketball teams will compete this Saturday in a tournament. Come out and show your support.

Congratulations to our Dividends of the Year!

Special shout-out to our PTSA President, Courtney Witt, who was recognized for reaching 1,000 volunteer hours! Congratulations - we couldn't do what we do without our Dividends & PTSA!!

Wednesday, the LCMS Jazz Band joined the Hagerty Band in their Jazz Under the Stars concert. Come check out all of our Band students in their Spring Concert on April 30 at HHS.

Skyward Attendance During Testing
During state testing, students may be marked absent by their teachers. Our attendance office will make corrections within the week. If your child's attendance is still incorrect after this time, please email lcms_attendance@scps.k12.fl.us. Teachers are unable to change attendance after the school day ends.

8th graders going to Hagerty:

Hello Hagerty Families!

In March, future Huskies met with a Hagerty School Counselor to select their courses for the 2026–27 school year. Skyward is now open for students to review the courses they requested. Access is available only through the student’sSkyward account. Please refer to the attached screenshot to help locate the course request link. Skyward will remain open until April 30, 2026. If your student would like to make any changes, this is the time to do so. Please review the information below for next steps.
  • If your student has no courses listed, this means they have not submitted a Course Planning Form. Students should submit a completed form to their middle school counselor as soon as possible.
  • To change an HHS course use this link. Please keep in mind that, at this time, we cannot change students who are scheduled for Intensive Reading or CAR courses.
  • To replace an HHS course with an SCVS course, there are two parts: first, please request the online course here. Second, request a change to the HHS classes using this link. Students should note if they prefer an on-campus virtual lab or off-campus. If off campus, please note the period/s requesting off. Parents/guardians, please review any off-campus periods with your student. Students must have reliable transportation and are expected to complete all virtual coursework on time.
Schedule changes will be very limited in the fall. The deadline to request changes for next school year is June 1, 2026.
