Principal Update

Dear Panther families,

What a great second week of school!
  • Tryouts for Volleyball and Cheer are complete.
  • We hosted the first PTSA General Meeting and Dividend Orientation.
  • We held Parent Tech Night and shared information on the many systems used here at LCMS. See below for info.
  • PTSA celebrated the beginning of the school year with the Back to School Social.
  • PTSA kicked off their biggest whole school fundraiser of the year - MegaBlast.
  • Dr. Laudani, PTSA President Mrs. Soto and Vice President Mrs. Ginn attended the Superintendent's Principals and Presidents Breakfast.
  • Students in Mrs. Higley's class participated in a silent debate.
Pictures of these events can be found HERE.

Thank you all for your patience as our county maintenance personnel and subcontractors have worked to fix the air conditioning issues that have popped up in various areas around campus. As many of you are aware, home ownership can sometimes be like a game of whack-a-mole - you fix one issue and another one pops up. I can assure you that Dr. Smith-Davis, our administrator over Facilities, and I are aware of the issues and have made sure that the Operations Team at the county office is aware as well. Many of you may not have even realized there have been issues because they have been isolated to specific areas of campus.

I am aware that there has also been a lot of misinformation circulating about changed setpoints adding to the A/C issues. Yes, SCPS changed the setpoints for our schools during unoccupied times - they actually lowered them - to 78 degrees. Setpoints during occupied time are at 74 degrees. This change is not causing any A/C issues. These are caused by mechanical issues that have been exacerbated by a record-setting heat wave. We are expecting a resolution soon.

Thank you also for your patience as we had to delay dismissal yesterday due to lightening in the area.

Parents of 8th graders, if you missed the meeting about the Pigeon Key field trip, email Mrs. Heckle hecklemz@scps.k12.fl.us or scroll down to see more information. This event is an amazing multi-day camp experience for students. It has nothing to do with the end of the year events that have already been scheduled (see school website/ParentSquare calendar). I HIGHLY recommend this to those whose children would be interested!

Have a great week!
Dr. Laudani

Scouting Event

Does your middle schooler need an activity? Something they can participate in as little or much as they like? Adventures? Friendship? Leadership experience? Volunteering opportunities?

Scouting is it! We meet every Monday and we camp once a month. beach trips, hiking, camping, canoeing, and more. Scout choose their adventures. Some like glamping, some prefer primitive trips, most like something in-between. (Check out our Facebook page documenting a year of fun!)

Scouts have chosen to do a life-sized board game (Battleship!) to kick off the new school year. We hope to see you there! (August 24th, 2026)
